Tourmaline Energy, a prominent Canadian energy exploration and production company, sought to enhance the environmental performance of its aging fleet of Waukesha VHP engines. With a commitment to reducing emissions, Tourmaline partnered with INNIO Group’s Waukesha reUp® Remanufacturing program. This collaboration aimed to upgrade the engines to the VHP Series Five, aligning with Tourmaline’s sustainability goals and operational needs.
The Waukesha reUp® program offers a comprehensive solution for engine upgrades, providing complete engines, short and long blocks, and parts. Through the core exchange program, customers can replace older Series Two and Series Four engines with like-new Series Five engines. The process involves disassembly, cleaning, and inspection using advanced technology, ensuring all parts meet strict OEM standards. This upgrade not only boosts horsepower but also significantly reduces emissions, offering enhanced performance without requiring additional floorspace.
Following a thorough assessment of performance requirements and emission standards, Tourmaline and Waukesha teams identified 29 engines for the reUp process. These engines, delivering between 1,500 to 1,900 horsepower, will be installed across multiple locations in British Columbia and Alberta. Tourmaline’s participation in the NGIF Emissions Testing Centre Program underscores its strong commitment to environmental stewardship, supporting the development and commercialization of methane-reducing technologies.
